Monitoring Australian Monsoon variability over the past four glacial cycles

چکیده

We analyse changes in terrigenous sedimentation along the northwestern Australian margin to monitor latitudinal migration of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and shifting boundaries climatic belts during last four glacial cycles. integrate high-resolution X-ray fluorescence (XRF) scanning elemental records from Core SO257–18548 International Ocean Discovery Program Site U1482, situated southwest Scott Plateau at southern edge present-day monsoonal belt, SO257–18571, located within dust-cyclone belt offshore Northwest Cape south Exmouth Plateau. Subseasonal-to-interdecadal variability of the Australian monsoon over North Queensland

Daily rainfall occurrence and amount at 11 stations over North Queensland are examined for summers 1958– 1998, using a Hidden Markov Model (HMM). Daily rainfall variability is described in terms of the occurrence of five discrete ‘weather states’, identified by the HMM. Three states are characterized respectively by very wet, moderately wet, and dry conditions at most stations; two states have ...

Solar Variability over the past Several Millennia

The Sun is the most important energy source for the Earth. Since the incoming solar radiation is not equally distributed and peaks at low latitudes the climate system is continuously transporting energy towards the polar regions. Any variability in the Sun-Earth system may ultimately cause a climate change. There are two main variability components that are related to the Sun. The first is due ...

Three million years of monsoon variability over the northern Sahara

We present a 3 million year record of aeolian dust supply into the eastern Mediterranean Sea, based on hematite contents derived from magnetic properties of sediments from Ocean Drilling Program Site 967. Our record has an average temporal resolution of 3400 years. Geochemical data validate this record of hematite content as a proxy for the supply of aeolian dust from the Sahara. We deduce that...

Hemodynamic monitoring over the past 10 years

Changes in hemodynamic monitoring over the past 10 years have followed two paths. First, there has been a progressive decrease in invasive monitoring, most notably a reduction in the use of the pulmonary artery catheter because of a presumed lack of efficacy in its use in the management of critically ill patients, with an increased use of less invasive monitoring requiring only central venous a...
